On Tuesday I snuck into a private showing of PostSecret. Frank came to speak to the students on MRU, and I couldn’t help but attend.
Are you familiar with PostSecret? Initially a short-term art project by Frank Warren, has exploded into a weekly online blog of the posted secrets viewed by over 4 million people every month.
How can we explain the ongoing popularity of PostSecret? I think it has to do with two things: a longing to be recognized, and a cathartic release of being vulnerable.
In a society of shallowness, unbridled vulnerability becomes attractive. It provides a reassurance that you’re not alone with your own secrets (and struggles).
Here’s one posted last week.
Visit the blog and read the weekly offerings. You’ll find yourself lost in the lives of strangers, and you may even find food for your own soul.
